B. P. Bam is the founder of the Purushottam Academy, established for the promotion of excellence in all fields. Under its auspices, several lecture series and workshops have been organized for the corporate sector. Companies such as Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Hindustan Construction Company, Mega Ace Consultancies, National Industrial Security Agency, Peace Initiatives (an NGO), and the Ashoka Group of Industries have all benifited from his programmes.
He was Vice President of the National Rifle Association of India and President of the Maharashtra Rifle Association for four years. He was also a qualified coach in rifle and pistol-shooting. After an illustrious service in the Indian Police Department for 34 years, he retired as Special Inspector General of Police in 1996. He was awarded the Indian Police Medal in 1991 and the Presidents’ Police Medal in 1996. The Maharashtra state government honoured him with the Shiv Chhatrapati Award for his contribution to the development of sports.
Having studied sports psychology and yoga as a hobby for over 30 years, he conducted workshops for Ranji Trophy teams, and also for umpires on special request from the BCCI. He worked with the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy at Bangalore as the official sports psychologist and motivator. A large number of sports persons in India have immensely benefitted from his guidance in mental training. He was one of the chief visiting faculties at the Maharashtra Police Academy at Nashik and also at Chanakya Mandal, an institution heading a youth development movement in Maharashtra.
B. P. Bam contributed articles to Newspapers, websites, magazines and seminars, and published books in Marathi on Sports Psychology including Marg Yashacha [Path to Success], Mana Sajjana [Oh My Noble Mind!] and Manopasana [Training of the Mind].
